Application for residence/work permit

Residence/work permit application has to be submitted personally to the Embassy or Honorary Consulate. All the certificates and documents have to be original and translated into English, Finnish or Swedish. The decision for all the applications is made by the Finnish Immigration Service in Finland, which might ask for additional information after receiving application.
Result of the application will be informed by email or by telephone from the Consular section. Please refrain from calling or sending inquiry concerning the progress of the application.


 

For application:

1. Two sets of completed application form (available at the Embassy and Honorary Consulates of Finland or can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service website www.migri.fi)
2. Attachments needed:

  • passport (valid 3 months past the departure date from Finland. Please be aware that Resident Permit stamp can not be attached in the added pages of the passport.)
  •  two copies of the passport personal information page, 1 copy of all the stamped pages in the passport on A4 paper.
  •  two passport size photos (black&white or colour photo/47x36mmface length32-36mm/clear/less than 6 months old/light coloured background)
  • application fee (to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

    for adults:  € 225 (25,000 yen in Jun 2010)  
    for working: € 250 (27,800 yen in Jun 2010)  
    for students: € 125 (13,900 yen in Jun 2010)  
    for children under 18 yrs old: € 80 (8,900 yen in Jun 2010)  
     

In addition to the above requirements, following documents are needed depending on the purpose of stay.  Application cannot be accepted if any document missing.  Please bring a copy (A4) of each document.

PERSON GOING TO WORK IN FINLAND (processing time normally 90 days)

1. Two sets of form OLE_TY1~4 or OLE_EHA according to your purpose of stay.(Can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
2. A letter from the receiving company or organization.
3. A letter from the sending company when applicable.
4. Application fee: € 250 (to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

RESEARCHER (processing time normally 45 days)

1. Two sets of form OLE_TUT (Can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
2. Letter of invitation from the receiving institute in Finland mentioning possible benefits (lodging, meals etc)
3. In case of a scholarship or a grant, a letter from receiving/sending organization (including information regarding amount of the scholarship or a grant)
4. Letter by the organization applicant belongs to
5. Applicant's own bank account statement showing necessary funds for the period of stay in Finland (equivalent of 900 €/month). This is not required for an applicant who has received a grant, or for whom the sending or the receiving organization covers all the costs.
6. University/College diploma, document to prove profession
7. Application fee: basically € 250 (to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

STUDENT OR EXCHANGE STUDENT(processing time normally 45 days)

** Please check the Finnish Immigration Service website Studying in Finland .

1. Two sets of completed form OLE_OPI (Can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
2. Letter of acceptance/invitation from the receiving institute in Finland mentioning possible benefits (lodging, meals, tuition fees etc)
3. Letter by the organization applicant belongs to
4. Applicant's own bank account statement showing necessary funds for the period of stay in Finland (equivalent of 500 €/month, Postgraduate student 900€/month). This is not required for a student who has received a grant, or for whom the sending or the receiving organization covers all the costs.
5. In case of a scholarship or a grant, a letter (including amount of the scholarship or a grant) from receiving/sending organization
6. Certificate of Health Insurance covering medical fees during stay of study (applied from 01/09/2007)
7. Language certificate for English or Finnish fluency (University, language school, Toefle or Toeic)
8. University/College diploma (when person has it)
9. In case of language course before the actual university/school starts: proof of those studies (Eng, Fin or Swe) i.e. letter of acceptance or confirmed participation
9. application fee: € 125 (to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

EXCHANGE STUDENT SENT BY YOUTH EXCHANGE ORGANIZATION OR ROTARY CLUB
(processing time normally 45 days)

1. Two sets of completed form OLE_OPI (Can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
2. Original letter of acceptance from the receiving establishment in Finland and from the Japanese organization mentioning the purpose and the length of the stay and benefits covered by the establishment (lodging, meals etc)
3. For the minor(under 18), permission letter from the parents and application has to be signed by the other parent and by the applicant himself
4. If the organisation does not provide insurance, certificate of Health Insurance covering medical fees during stay of study (applied from 01/09/2007)
5. application fee: € 125 /minor € 80(to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

SPOUSE OF THE FAMILY MEMBER LIVING IN FINLAND OR GOING TO MOVE/WORK IN FINLAND (processing time normally 120 days)

1. Wife has to fill up two sets of form OLE_PH1 concerning herself and sign.
2. Husband has to fill up two sets of form "Clarification of family ties PK1_plus " concerning wife (who is the applicant) and sign.
(Forms can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
3. Document to prove family ties (" koseki tohon" which has to be translated into English by translation office)
4. application fee: € 225 (to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate)

CHILD OF THE FAMILY MEMBER LIVING IN FINLAND OR GOING TO MOVE/WORK IN FINLAND (processing time normally 120 days)

1. Two sets of form OLE_PH4
2. Two sets of form "Clarification of family ties for guardian whose child is the applicant PH4_plus(PK4_plus)  *Not needed when child applies along with parent.
(Both forms can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
3. Document to prove family ties (" koseki tohon" which has to be translated into English by translation office )
4. Application has to be signed by the other parent and by the applicant (child) himself (if possible)
5. application fee: €  80(to be paid in JPY according to monthly rate) 

Other Grounds i.e.VOLUNTEER WORK (processing time normally 45 days)

1. Two sets of completed form OLE_MUU (Can be downloaded from Finnish Immigration Service www.migri.fi )
2. Letter of invitation or contract from the receiving institute in Finland mentioning purpose and period of stay and possible benefits (lodging, meals, etc)
3. In case of a grant, a letter from receiving/sending organization (including information regarding amount of the grant)
4. Letter by the organization applicant belongs to or is sent by
5. Applicant's own bank account statement showing necessary funds for the period of stay in Finland (equivalent of 900 €/month). This is not required for an applicant who has received a grant, or for whom the sending or the receiving organization covers all the costs.
6. University/College diploma with subject of study when internship is part of the studies
7. application fee: € 225 / € 250 (depending on condition)
