Year 2019 will mark the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland. The centennial will be celebrated in both countries with abundance of events and projects related to the cultural heritage and relations of the two countries.
To help the audience to follow and take part in the festivities in Japan, the Embassy of Finland in Tokyo - together with its partners Business Finland, the Finnish Intistute in Japan and the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in Japan - has now opened an official diplomatic anniversary website in the domain www.japanfinland100.jp
The website includes an anniversary event calendar as well as a compilation of major milestones marking the history of Japanese-Finnish relations. Also the identities of the six official Friendship Envoys of the upcoming anniversary year will be published on the new website on December 12th.
The number of planned events for the anniversary year is growing constantly, but it is already clear that the year will witness the largest cultural exchange activity between Japan and Finland ever. In Japan, the audience will be able to enjoy several touring art exhibitions from Finland ranging from the Moomins to Alvar Aalto and from ceramic art to Finnish female painters, just to mention some. A lot will be happening also in the fields of film, music and other performing arts.
In the spirit of openness and mutual friendship, anyone organizing an event or project in Japan related to the anniversary is invited to join the official program by making an application through the website.
Please join us in celebrating the 100 years of Finnish-Japanese friendship!
