100th Anniversary of Finland's independence – let's celebrate together!

Ambassador Jukka Siukosaari

Finland will celebrate its first century as an independent, democratic state in 2017. On
6th December, 1917, Finland claimed independence when the Parliament approved the declaration of independence.

The special year will be celebrated with many events throughout Finland as well as around the world. Japan is no exception, as there are plenty of cultural and other Finland-related events planned to take place across the country.

The theme of the centennial is "together", and we invite all Finns and friends of Finland in Japan to take part in the celebrations throughout the year.  We wish to have multiple organisers and actors in Japan to join the party and organize their own events to honor the centennial.

The aim of the event calendar below is to list all Finland 100 related events taking place in Japan during 2017. The initial listing is not fixed nor exhaustive, and we invite all Friendship Associations, Finland related organisations and other groupings of friends of Finland in Japan to contact us to get their event included in the calendar throughout the year (see instructions below). The Embassy of Finland in Tokyo is naturally planning to contribute its share on the list of events. Please stay tuned and follow also our Facebook and Twitter accounts for more information.

Let's make this remarkable year unforgettable together!

Jukka Siukosaari
Ambassador of Finland to Japan
